My problem now is that I can't figure out how to open the diabloii.exe with wine. I took the aforementioned Diablo II folder that was downloaded and patched via my desktop and placed it on my Chromebook's SSD. I have since successfully installed WINE. I have since "power washed" my Chromebook 3 and have installed their stock "Linux Beta" that they have. I ran the program and it still said that I needed to insert the CD. Put it on a USB drive and installed it on my Chromebook 3 via Crouton. I then went on my desktop, installed D2 & LOD through the Blizzard website. I then plugged an external CD-ROM into my Chromebook 3 in an attempt to run the game, but it still said that I needed to insert the CD. I attempted to run the game, but alas, it still requested the CD to be inserted. I obtained all the files off my CD-ROMs for Diablo2 & LOD and put them in the Diablo II folder. Unknown which ones or where to get them reliably.

The following is the patch notes regarding this no CD feature. You just have to do a full install and copy all MPQ files from the Play Disc to your Diablo II installation directory. If you installed the latest 1.12 patch, it already doesn't need your CD to play. Apparently Diablo II developers has decided that enough is enough. looks like I didn't need the no-CD loader after all. Now I can play Diablo II without swapping CD's. I copied the latter two files, as the first one already exists, into the Diablo II directory. I placed the original Diablo II Play Disc into my CD drive and found "D2CHAR.MPQ", "D2MUSIC.MPQ", and "PlAYD2.MPQ" on the disc. Please insert your Diablo II CD." message, shown in screen shot below. However, after copying the no CD loader files in to "C:\Program Files\Diablo II" and executing "D2Loader-1.12.exe", I got a "Couldn't load Diablo 2 MPQ files. Luckily, I found DIABLO 2 v1.12a NO-CD LOADER (22.7KB).
But now I've been spoiled by Steam, where none of Steam games requires the original CD to be inserted at start.
Now, I am determined to pass the entire game. The first time, I had never gotten past Act I. I recently started playing Diablo II again.
